Over the next year, the Policy Innovation Platform will design and implement a number of engagements identified in partnership with the Policy Innovation Hub on a range of policy challenges in Ontario. Topics to be explored will include innovation policy and the potential impacts of disruptive technologies, as well as social and environmental policy challenges. We envision that this partnership will help augment and accelerate the great policy innovation work that is already happening in the Ontario Public Service, and help create opportunities for even more.
During our partnership, we hope to achieve the following:
- Learn rigorously about when to use what tools, how, and with whom;
- Engage diverse Ontarians in the policy development process;
- Increase the use of policy innovation tools across the Ontario Public Service; and
- Help to position Ontario as a leading jurisdiction for applying innovative policy tools effectively for better outcomes for all citizens and communities.
To achieve our goals, we need to learn out loud. That means we will be writing about how we designed each engagement, what worked and what did not, who participated, and what we think this could mean for integrating the tools we test more widely across the public service. If you would like to receive updates on our engagements and our learnings, please sign up to a dedicated mailing list for this purpose.
And, if you’d like to contact us to work with you on an engagement, please get in touch.
We’re excited to embark on this journey with you!
Announcing partnership between BII+E’s Policy Innovation Platform and the Ontario Public Service’s Policy Innovation Hub
We are thrilled to announce a new partnership between the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship’s Policy Innovation Platform and the Ontario Public Service’s Policy Innovation Hub. This partnership builds on two years of pilot work designed to test the application of new tools and methodologies in the policy development process. During the pilot, the Policy Innovation Platform led or supported initiatives with five ministries and agencies, engaging over 500 Ontarians to tackle issues including:
Our partnership builds on the Policy Innovation Hub’s mandate to connect and collaborate with partners inside and outside of government to drive policy innovation to help the Ontario Public Service better address policy challenges, and the Policy Innovation Platform’s mandate of helping the public sector use innovative policy development methods and tools that lead to better outcomes for all Canadians.
