About the Report
On February 5, 2018, CIFAR and the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship (BII+E) convened 29 emerging policymakers across different sectors in Montreal, Quebec. This event engaged early- to mid-career policymakers from the public, private, academic, and not-for-profit sectors. The event in Montreal was the final in a series of five labs that CIFAR and BII+E have been hosting. With this work, our goals were to raise awareness of current AI capabilities and applications, increase the ability of policymakers to respond to AI developments, and contribute to early thinking on the future of AI policy in Canada. Combined with the previous engagements in Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Ottawa, this series has brought together nearly 125 emerging policymakers. This series encouraged participants to apply collaborative brainstorming and critical thinking, while exploring current AI capabilities and applications in order to develop policy recommendations.
