Melinda recently returned to Canada after five years working in the entrepreneurship and innovation economy in Asia Pacific and San Francisco.
Melinda is the co-founder of Lucent Sky, an application security company with offices in San Francisco and Taipei. Prior to this, she was co-founder of the Social Innovation Research Group. Melinda has broad and deep interests in the innovation economy, entrepreneurship and emergent technologies and is keen to build avenues for policymakers and technologists to gain mutual visibility. She believes that an inclusive economy requires technologists to consider the ethics of their products and their externalities, and for policymakers to thoughtfully engage in understanding and regulating the tech economy.
Melinda is passionate about economic resilience, and works to advance the cause of entrepreneurship through judging and mentoring startup competitions with Startup Chile, WeMENA (a World Bank competition supporting women entrepreneurs in MENA), and Code for Canada. She was a Canadian delegate to the G20 Young Entrepreneurs Summit, and has spoken at the Social Enterprise World Forum,the Visa APAC Security Summit, and delivered a keynote at the Lean Startup Conference in San Francisco.
Melinda graduated from the University of Toronto, where she was a Loran Scholar. She also holds a certificate in Entrepreneurship from the Next 36 (a program of Next Canada). Melinda is a Senior Fellow of the Canadian International Council and sits on the board of directors of the University of Toronto Alumni Association.
