Matthew Seddon was a Policy Advisor at the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship (BII+E) from 2016-2017.

As a Policy Advisor with the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship (BII+E), Matthew brought rigorous qualitative research and data science techniques to policy analysis related to research and innovation. He offered creative recommendations for difficult challenges faced by governments at the federal, provincial, and local levels.

Matthew is fascinated with increasing importance that innovation policy has in today’s growing and increasingly complex economy. He is particularly interested in the risk capital industry, fintech and scaling up firms. Having come from an entrepreneurial family, Matthew is passionate about studying the issues and barriers that face entrepreneurs.

Matthew holds an Honours B.A. from the University of Toronto in Economics and Public Policy, and an MPP from the School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Toronto. Currently, Matthew studies data science at John Hopkins University through Coursera.
